Melbourne Fashion Lab was created when owner Amanda noticed when it came time to launching her own label, there were many problems even as an experienced Garment Technician and Designer - sourcing fabrics and trims, understanding the technical, approaching manufacturers & sample makers, getting physical samples & of course do final bulk productions onshore or offshore.
A lot of these start companies approach manufacturers & sample makers who send them complicated forms, expecting them to understand everything "fashion jargon" and then wanting them to place huge minimum orders. Even someone in the industry who has seen many of these forms, they are all worded differently creating a lot of confusion.
Majority of the clients we work with come from different backgrounds and haven't studied Fashion - We love to work with them and give them suggestions, advice & of course get their clothing made. We just want to keep things simple, make clothing or get our start ups ready to contact manufactures.
The great thing about having a young and fun team is everyday we learn from each other, from our new clients, and it's all a learning curve. We have a vast amount of knowledge between the 5 of us, and love to brainstorm new concepts & how things can be done differently.
We also love to work with students, twice a year we run an intern program to give a real hands on experience - by working directly with our clients, this gives our interns an advantage to translate what they have learnt in theory into practical life experience.
